How FairSetup works
Integrations

Connect an AI assistant

FairSetup runs an MCP server, so assistants like Claude can work with your FairSetup data directly: track time, fill in your self-assessment, and answer questions about your history. It acts as you, with exactly the permissions you have in the web app.

Step 1

Copy the server URL

Every client needs the same address:

https://v2.fairsetup.com/api/mcp

There is no API key to copy. The first time a client connects, it opens the FairSetup sign-in page; sign in with your usual account and approve access.

Step 2

Add it to your client

Claude (web, desktop, and mobile)

  1. Open Settings → Connectors on claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app.
  2. Click Add custom connector, name it FairSetup, and paste the server URL.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to FairSetup, and approve access.
  4. In a chat, enable FairSetup from the tools menu if it isn't on already. Connectors added on the web also show up on desktop and mobile.

On Team or Enterprise plans, an organization owner may need to add the connector first; members then just click Connect.

Claude Code

Run this in a terminal, then type /mcp in Claude Code to sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http fairsetup https://v2.fairsetup.com/api/mcp

Other MCP clients

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth (Cursor, VS Code, and others) works too. Add the server URL as a remote/HTTP server; most use a config like:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fairsetup": { "url": "https://v2.fairsetup.com/api/mcp" }
  }
}
Step 3

Try it

Ask in plain language. If you belong to more than one company, say which one, or ask the assistant to list your companies first.

Timer
Read & write (your own entries)
  • “Start a timer for code review”
  • “Log 2 hours yesterday on the onboarding project”
  • “How many hours did I track this cycle?”
Self-assessment
Read & write (your own)
  • “Draft my self-assessment from this cycle's time entries”
  • “Submit my assessment”
History & analysis
Read only
  • “Show my PTO balance”
  • “Summarize my member events over the last year”
  • “Compare my tracked hours across the last three cycles”
Permissions

What it can and can't do

The assistant can only change your own time entries and your own self-assessment. Every change goes through the same validation and audit log as the web app, so edits made by an assistant show up in your timer history like any other.

Other members' data and company-wide views are read-only, and only visible if your role already allows it in the web app. Admin workflows — approving or paying cycles, distributions, transfers, and salary changes — are not available over MCP at all.

To revoke access, remove the connector in your client. You can reconnect at any time.

Troubleshooting

If it doesn't connect

  • Check the URL ends in /api/mcp and starts with https://.
  • If the sign-in window closed or failed, disconnect and connect again to restart it.
  • “You are not a member of this company” means the account you signed in with isn't part of that company. Sign in with the same account you use for FairSetup.
